This blog is going to the dogs

I would never have dreamed in a thousand years that a puppy class could make me feel so energized.

I also never would have dreamed that I considered more than once yesterday to start a full on new dog blog .
Oh yes I did.
Never fear.
It was short lived.

And just to really shock you all I actually showered with my pup....
I'm totally not even kidding.
He loves it.
You're probably thinking this is some kind of really sad misguided maternal meltdown.
Maybe it is but I don't believe so.

I sat outside sunbathing yesterday, yes in August, as he lay next to me because he follows me everywhere all day long and realised he's just what I need. A quiet (mostly) companion to just hang out with during the day while the house is still. Something to talk to that doesn't talk back at me and stop me from feeling a little strange that as a grown woman I still often talk out load, to myself (I was an only child for five years. Apparently it's a thing)
I also just very much enjoy having a soft and fluffy pooch.
That doesn't sound right.

I haven't had much time for animals since having children, they kind of grossed me out at the thought of the extra work they would create for me by bringing extra germs near my kids.
But as a youngster I always grew up with a cat, had a pet goat Buster who I profusely swore as the one and only animal love of my life. I used to ride him and even taught him to jump (poor thing) while I waited for my parents to give in and buy me a pony.
I had a frog once and we had a baby possum stay in a shoe box in our hot water cupboard.
I always had praying mantis or snails in jars too.
A pet lamb named Archie and finally ponies Jerry aka Geriatric because he was INSANE and not at all broken in or suitable as a family pet and a very old grey boy Timmy who fed himself almost to death, but that's whole other story involving an eleven year old girl with a pony but never actually having a saddle...

So back to last night. A ninety minute session where my clever boy learned to sit and stay while I tentatively walked around him instructing and half non believing that he would "stay, stay, stay" long enough for a treat made feel like I had taken a holiday!

FYI fellow doggy trainers tentatively is not the correct way to do this, but apparently everyone does it when they are learning.
Bold and confident is the key of course.
We nailed it after that.

A small break in the home/ life/work routine and accomplishing a small important step in my new interest.
Refreshing.
Basic stuff really.

It runs for four weeks and I'm already thinking what I can do next?

It hasnt been until now that I realise I am missing getting out at night.

We used to be the opposite.
Over booked up during the week with meetings almost every night.
It took it's toll. When I started work we pulled right back.

For now, as a small do-able step I feel it would be important for me to take a class of something that interests me and take that time every week.
Something purely whimsical and fun, not an organisational committee or anything tedious. blerg..been there witnessed the PTA dramas thank you very much.

And something else to blog/facebook and instagram about other than puppies. ha
